On our annual Heart to Heart Day which is on Friday 9th February 2018 students are invited to take part in our ‘Row the Amazon River Challenge’.
The navigable route of the Amazon River is 3,343 km (2,077 miles). This was rowed in 2013 by Dr Mark de Rond and Anton Wright of Cambridge University over a period of 33 days. We are going to attempt to do this with our Academy community in just over one Academy day.
There are two ways your child can participate in this challenge:
1) Students make a minimum donation of at least 50p at break on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday next week to the finance team in the Academy Gym. This means they can come to the Academy on Friday 9th February in their PE kit and participate as part of their Year Team
2) A student can receive a sponsorship form from Mr Bland who will also be in the Academy Gym on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. If the student raises £15 or over in sponsorship with the monies paid in by Thursday 8th February they can participate and receive a ‘I helped row the Amazon River for Alzheimer’s Research’ t-shirt.
Monies raised during the Heart to Heart Day will go to Alzheimer’s Research which students and staff have chosen as their nominated charity this term, which I am sure you will agree is a very worthwhile cause.
We do hope all of our Parents/Carers support us in this challenge.
