Attendance for Learning

At Joseph Swan Academy, excellent attendance is extremely important to us. As we all know, there is a direct and proven link between a child’s attendance in school and what they achieve. Quite simply:

Good Attendance + Good Educational Opportunities = Academic Success

Children get one chance at school, and your child’s chances of a successful future may be affected by not attending school regularly. A regular and punctual attendance pattern will help your child in their adult life and when they enter the world of work. School will also help your child to develop their social skills, such as making and keeping friends, and being able to communicate well with other people.

We expect every student to have at least 96% attendance; this is crucial if they are to do well in school and achieve to their full potential.

The government has also issued an article about the damage taking short breaks during term time can have on student’s exam results. This article can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/short-breaks-damage-young-peoples-futures.
