In recent years playing games on line has increased dramatically with reports that children as young as 5 are playing online against other people. There are 3 main dangers of playing games online:

  • Most gaming sites have chat rooms, which, in some cases, sexual predators could use to groom children. Gaming consoles such as x box and play stations can be connected to the internet, letting children chat and play against people from all over the world.
  • Children can become addicted to these sites, especially ‘role play’ or ‘virtual world’ sites that require people to stay on them for long periods of time.
  • Like any other website where children are in touch with other children, bullying can take place.

Encourage your child to look out for the CEOP button, or maybe download it onto the home toolbar so it is always on hand to use.
