On Friday Year 9 had a visit from Great Britain International Athlete JJ. Jegede as part of the Sky Living for Sport Program to which we have subscribed. JJ hosted a special assembly to the whole of Year 9 at which he shared stories about his motivation to achieve in sports and in his school studies and how he managed to achieve despite living in one of the most deprived areas of the country.
He then had a talk with our Year 9 P.E elite group on making the most of your talents and the 6 keys to success. He warned them that talent alone is not enough to succeed and that hard work and forward planning are very important in order to stand out from the crowd. The group was then treated to a training session in which their running technique was perfected and they did a number of exercises JJ himself uses in training.
The group thoroughly enjoyed the morning and left with plenty to think about which will hopefully help them to fulfil our school mission statement of ‘valuing individual achievement in a school where everybody can be somebody‘.
