Sixth Form Literature Students Theatre Visit

The Sixth Form A Level Literature students were given the opportunity to visit Northern Stage in order to see an RSC production of Shakespeare’s famous work Hamlet. This play is a key text for our students as they are exploring it as part of a unit called “Elements of Crime”. In this unit they are approaching Hamlet through exploring its links with the Crime genre. The students really valued the chance to see the text in performance: after all, it is only on the stage that a play truly comes to life: as Hamlet himself says, “The play’s the thing”…

Before the performance the students were able to meet the RSC cast members who discussed the play and their insights about the characters that they were performing as in Hamlet. This discussion with professional actors was fascinating and allowed students to gain a new and unique perspective on the play.
