This very popular course is designed to enable students to understand and appreciate the impact that science has on our everyday lives. There is a high level of practical work involved so the students become very skilful in carrying out practical techniques and safely following standard procedures.
Students have the opportunity to research and visit a variety of local organisations, where science is used in the workplace.
Students carry out research on energy use and the generation of electricity. This gives them a greater insight into the issues associated with carbon emissions and global warming, which are of great concern to everyone.
This course will prepare students for a range of courses including a degree in Applied Science. A level Applied Science can lead to a variety of careers including: teaching, laboratory technician, forensic science, dental technician, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, environmental work and the health and beauty industries.
