Joseph Swan Academy is dedicated to the ethos of “Where everyone can Shine”. A fundamental way to develop this is through students Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural education. These pages will highlight the Academy policy on this key area of student development and also provide details of events and initiatives within the Academy designed to promote this.
Spiritual development will involve the growth of their sense of self, their unique potential, their understanding of their strengths and weakness, and their willingness to achieve.
Moral development involves gaining understanding of the difference between right and wrong and of moral conflict, a concern for others and the will to do what is right.
Social development involves gaining an understanding of the responsibilities and rights of being members of families and communities and an ability to relate to others and to work with others for the common good.
Cultural development involves gaining an understanding of culture and traditions, both your own and that of others. It is about taking an interest in others’ ways of doing things and being curious about differences.
