Joseph Swan Academy recently hosted our annual Year 6 Cluster Primary ‘Healthy Body’ Sports Event.
220 Year 6 students from Kells Lane, Oakfield, Glynwood and Harlow Green (all schools which are part of our cluster of primary schools) attended either a full morning or an afternoon of sporting activities.
The aim of the day is to open up new and exciting opportunities within sport, opportunities which our primary schools may not be able to offer to their students. At the same time, students were reminded of the importance of exercise and healthy eating. Students had the chance to use the Academy’s climbing wall and play table tennis within our European tournament set up. They also participated in trampolining and basketball drills and competitions.
The students were supported by Mr Gray, our Head of P.E., and the P.E staff, alongside some of our trained Sports Leaders from Year 10.
A brilliant time was had by all, with all students receiving a commendation certificate for their participation in the day and some lucky students winning awards for their individual performance in each of the activities.
This event is just one example of our extensive transition and primary links programme. If you would like more information on this, please do not hesitate to contact our Deputy Head, Mr Bland, at the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org or call: 01914422000 ext 249.
