As part of the extensive Joseph Swan Academy transition programme, during the summer holidays, we were delighted to offer a week long summer school to all of our prospective Year 7 students. The week was extremely well attended with over 100 students taking part.
The theme for the week was ‘The Island’, with students enjoying a wide range of exciting activities which included:
- Sand Castle Building Competition
- Beach Sports Day
- Pirate Cinema Afternoon
- Pirate Bingo
- The Island Art Day
- Island Creative Writing
The highlight for most students was an interactive session on ‘Island Animals and Birds’, delivered by Riverside Falconry. Students learnt about wildlife and reptiles native to islands around the world. There was a bird of prey display, which included a Kestrel, Eagle Owl and Harris Hawk, with every student having the opportunity to handle all of the birds and reptiles, which included snakes and lizards.
The hugely successful week gave the students another great opportunity to use our fantastic facilities at Joseph Swan and assisted them with more valuable orientation time for our site.
